Re: Radar Detectors - Passport best for bikes???

John,
If I may steal a moment of your time, maybe consider the Valentine One. I
know it's REALLY expensive. I've got a BEL 945STi which I don't use any more
because the detection range was really poor. I mean REALLY poor. I wouldn't try
to sell it to you folks because I still want you to talk to me. My experience has
been that anything cordless will not offer good detection range.
If you're interested, this is how I've got my Valentine set up. The detector
sits in my tank bag, just under the clear map part. So it points forward, just
above the windscreen. It's connected to a remote audio adapter which sits atop my
clutch reservoir (I'm talking about my Yamaha, no Sprint yet) and a remote display
which is attached just beneath the clocks. So I can adjust the volume with my
left hand, and see the radar direction, number of signals, and signal strength on
the remote display. I can run an audio cable to my chatterbox, just haven't done
it yet. The Valentine is connected directly to the bike's battery so it's on when
I turn it on.
How does it work? Even where it is, I get really good front range, almost as
good as I get with it in the car. The directional arrows get a little confused
when there is radar from behind because I'm there to block it, but it still works
okay. So far, saved me a few times from the 'fuzz.'
But I'm not saying everyone has to have a Valentine One, just really consider
not getting a cordless detector. They don't work that well. If you'd like
pictures, maybe I could get ahold of a friend's digital camera and post pictures
on our website....

Take care,
    Mark
