Re: for Paul - risers, Alpinestars

I had a look at the TBR 'risers', and as far as I can make out they clamp
around the fork tube, not onto the top of the fork - so even the tallest
ones can't be much higher than the stock bars. I guess the point is that
they're adjustable, but I don't think they'll help folk like me who want
more height.

The Helibars look nice, but the ST kit is about the most expensive one they
do! Anyone know why? Does it include longer cables, or is it gold-plated, or
what?

The Genmar risers look better value, but then they're not adjustable. Sigh.

I might just stick with the ST bars. They go more or less straight onto the
RS, and now I've had them on a while I'm getting used to them, even quite
liking them.

I have a pair of Goretex-lined Alpinestars which I've had a few years now.
They do indeed always keep my feet dry and toasty. They also protected my
feet and ankles well in a nasty smash, and indeed survived in good enough
condition to keep on using. About their only fault is that the soles can be
a bit slippy on drain covers and such, sometimes making your feet slip in a
scary way in the rain. It probably only matters if you're a tippy-toe
short-arse like me though.
