Heated grips (another tale)

I had my heated grips fitted by my dealer when I bought my 00 BRG ST way
back in March.

Recently the grips failed to work, and I discovered the relay had rusted
solid. Easy to replace and cure, but it got me investigating the circuit for
the grips...

The wiring suggests that the front and rear positions of the switch invoke
the same heating circuit (switch brown and pink leads are joined t the same
pin at the connector, which feeds into brown), yet subjectively, the front
position seems to provide more heat than the rear. Is this a shared
experience? Is there any further information provided with the after-market
kit?

FWIW the switch rocker is already built to pass light on one side, and looks
as if it could be modified to pass light on the other; and the switch body,
whilst not being adaptable to provide illumination, looks as if it may share
a basic design with something that would... Anyone know what?
