3M Film
Eric,
Thanks for another order on the 3M Scotchcal Protective Film. I always like
to see fellow motorcyclists keeping our stock up. I hope motorcyclists
interested in this product purchase our product through you as your
templates, instructions, and application tools are very useful for the best
results with the product.
Most of the questions I'm seeing people have are related to the film's
conformability and it's abrasion resistance. The film is primarily intended
as a clear 'bra' for cars as protection against the elements encountered on
the nose of an automobile and therefore is pretty tough. It will conform to
most curved surfaces, but as the film is several mils thick, it will have
some limitations over complex curved surfaces. A small amount of heat can
assist in conforming the film during application.
Secondly, the film should be fairly abrasion resistant, but again over time
it will be possible for an area to show wear- for example in the knee areas
of an Aerostitch clad rider. However, I believe you will find the film to
hold up very well and be worth the investment for the clear look, saved
paint, and easily replaceable when worn features.
Finally, though not having tested it, I suspect this product is not optically
clear due to its thickness and would effect vision negatively for use on a
visor. Other 3M films may offer a better solution. This application would
be on a 'test and approve' basis by the user and safe vision should be the
priorty here.
Though this product is not my speciality, please feel free to contact me
anytime and I will do my best to get the answers you need.
