Re: OIL
Not to disagree..but I will.. The owners manual for my 1999 Sprint (
dated 1998, Publication Part #3856006, issue 2) has contradictory
recommendations !!! On page 77 it calls for "semi or fully synthetic
motorcycle oil 15-40 wt which meets API SH. " On page 80 it calls for
"fully synthetic motorcycle oil which meets API SH ... such as Mobil
1 Racing 4T 15-40 wt. "
Here's my problem Mobil 1 Racing 4T is 15/50 wt... Mobil does not
make Racing 4T in a 15-40 wt. In fact I know of NO manufacturer that
produces a 15-40 wt oil! 10-40, 15-50, 20-50, 5-50, 10-30, 0-30,
various straight weights but NO 15-40 wt . If I am wrong someone
PLEASE tell me.
Also Triumph in the maintenance guide calls for oil changes at 6,000
mile intervals. If I went 6,000 miles between oil changes I'd prolly
want to use a fully synthetic oil. But since I don't, I use the semi
synthetic Motul 5100. And I sleep fine at night :-))
Humbly,
Erik
PS: And how come I can't buy Mobil 1 Racing 4T in the US?? I can buy
their 10-40wt bike oil but not the branded "Mobil 1 Racing 4T" like
they can get in the UK.
PPS: Anyone read the article in MCN about the guy who got over
200,000 miles out of his Honda CBR900 changing his oil every 5,000
miles with Castrol GTX 20-50 wt car oil.
