Speeding tickets, plea bargains, etc

Well it finally happened.....Had a nice friendly chat with an officer of the
law at the side of Rte 17 yesterday. He even gave me a nice yellow piece of
paper with his autograph as a souvenir. Something about me going 77 in a
55mph zone. The good officer said I could (and should) plead not guilty,
and then at the court date, we'd step out of the court room and arrange what
sounded like a plea bargain.

Somehow, in thirty years of riding/driving I've managed to accumulate zero
speeding tickets. So I have no experience of how this works, what to expect
in such a deal, etc. Any advice on what to do and what NOT to do would be
greatly appreciated. Don't so much mind a fine, but want to avoid points on
my license if possible.

May be I could plead temporary insanity by reason of Triumph.... "The bike
made me do it yer honner. The road was wide and smooth, with no traffic in
sight, and sweeping curves with good visibility. It just kept telling me
faster, faster..."

maybe I shouldn't mention that I was only in 3rd gear, and there're three
more to go :-)

And for the future, are there any good radar detectors out there? Or are
they all expensive security blankets?

Thanks in advance,

Mort Harries
