European Tour Help....

Hi fellow STers. 

My buddy and I are in the preliminary stages of
planning a tour through Europe, probably for like a
month in May '01. We've been discussing strategies for
securing bikes (my preference is an ST, of course) for
the trip and these are our thoughts on options:

1) Guided tour company.
2) Rental
3) Ship bikes over and back for trip.
4) Purchase at beggining and resell at end used bikes.


We're thinking the first three are going to be VERY
expensive (plus we're not interested in travelling on
anyone's schedule but our own). 

The fourth option (buy and resell) sounds good but I'm
wondering how much red tape there would be. 

Are there other options I'm missing? 

Thanks to anyone who can contribute thoughts or
ideas....
