[ST] Re: Throttle lock

Hi Bradders.

Yeah - I have one installed.

They do exactly as they imply. Lock the throttle at the position you want so
that you can take your right hand off the bar.

Over time, they tend to loosen up a little and require a small retensioning
in order to continue to hold the throttle firmly. Fortunately, this is a
very simple operation, with most throttle locks having a small bolt or screw
to make adjustments.

If you're considering getting a throttle lock, it pays to shop around. Some
are quite ugly, with big mounting brackets whilst others are quite sleek and
look like they were designed for that bike. Some are large and require your
grip to be cut down so it will fit. Others are just small enough to fit
(after the switch assembly has been repositioned) Some throttle locks have
the locking lever positioned so that it is quite a stretch to reach it and
you have to move your hand slightly whilst others seem to position the lever
well within reach, even for people with small hands.

As for anything, you get what you pay for. My mate got a Honda throttle lock
for his VFR. It broke on him about 12 months later. It was a cheap part. I
cannot remember what brand I bought, but it is quite sturdy although
marginally less attractive than the Honda one. Mine hasn't budged since the
day it was installed almost 2 years ago and the only maintenance it requires
is a minor adjustment to the tension of the sprint perhaps once or twice a
year.

If you, or anyone else wants to see a picture of my throttle lock, then
please contact me off list.

Regards
Darryl
