Feeling sorry for myself

OK, so I'll come clean at the start - I'm looking for people to comiserate
with me, or tell me to pull out of it, or tell me that things'll be OK, or
whatever.

I recently fell off my new ST (car decided it wanted to share my lane, I
thought I'd rather avoid it, but in the process I managed to drop the bike
at maybe 40-50kmh and fell off, hitting a kerb). I thought I had bruised
my shoulder, got a bit of gravel rash (shorts, T shirt, well it was over 40
degrees) and broken a bone in my foot - at least that's what the emergency
doctor said. The bike sustained superficial damage to the left side
(fairing, footpegs, bars etc), and I was shocked to see the bill for $7500
- - the whole bike only cost $12,000 two months before (these are Aus$, so
divide by two for US$)

After eight weeks I got the bike back last weekend, and took it for a
ride. But things weren't right with my shoulder and foot, and I got
a specialist appointment today. Apparently my foot will need screws
inserted, or the bones fused (X rays, cat scan etc on Monday) and my
shoulder will never be right again (damaged AC joint whatever that is - not
worth the operation apparently). So, I can't ride for another 13 weeks at
least, the longest time I'll have been off a bike for the last 14 years -
Australian winters are fine for riding (really) but I also used to ride
throughout the UK winter as well - my last off was about twelve years ago
when the bike (Suzi GS 650) skidded on a patch of black ice - luckily the
accident was right next to a building site, and I was able to use a piece
of scaffolding to straighten the handlebars enough to ride on.

Anyway, I'm feeling pretty miserable tonight.

Phil
