Andrew,

I felt pretty good changing mine again at 1500 miles. Cheap motor
insurance. After winter I'll  probably stick to 6000 mile changes. If
you put your bike down for the winter months it will be important to put
fresh oil in again. That'll protect your bottom end from corossion due
to dirty oil.

That's just my .02 cents, works for me.
