First visit to the 1/4 Mile

I had my first visit ever to a 1/4 mile tonight. I went to Firebird
Raceway outside of Phoenix, AZ. Payed my $10 entry fee and $5 tech
inspection and ran my Sprint ST down the track a few times.

Digging through the archives, someone reported that Motorcyclist got a 1/4
mile 11.53 and 116.3 MPH (didn't say which year or model). All I
can say, is my sorry self didn't get near that!

It was great fun, to pay 15 bucks to race a few times and not worry about
Mr. Officer is nice. I made 3 runs, but could have easily made at least 3 more.

My one big observation from watching the cars is that I would advise you to
think twice before messing with a Supra. Those things can be made to fly
in a straight line!

For those of you interested, the results from my runs are below.

First run, my friend on a TL1000R blew my doors off. He had a 11.96 at
119.84. My stats were: 1/4mile at 13.268 104.78, reaction time was
.954, 60' at 2.363, 1/8 mile at 8.664 at 85.62.

Second run was solo and I showed some improvement, Reaction Time of .801,
60' at 2.136, 1/8 mile a 8.231 at 88.25, 1/4 mile 108.69 at 12.72

Third run sucked, had the TL blow my doors off again, however the
interesting thing was that my reaction time was .29 seconds slower than the
TL (I had an exact 1.00 R/T) but my 60' time was .07 seconds faster (my
time was 2.137). After that, he blew my doors off and I ended up with a
13.017 at 106.14 1/4 mile.

Anyways, my thoughts is that it is a mixture of launch, HP and gearing that
gives the TL so much kick. I would shift into 4th right before the 1/4
mile, while he was nailing red line in 4th at the 1/4 mile. Maybe I need
that turbo.....

Bike info: '00 Blue ST, Triumph Performance Slip-on, K&N air filter, new
tune, an 18 tooth front sprocket, and a rider weight of 210. And, although
I do have the Panniers and top bag, I didn't run the 1/4 mile with them on,
so I can't use them as an excuse.

On a side note, there was a TL-S there that smoked my friend on a TL-R and
also beat an R1.
