[ST] RE: st-digest V2001 #222 Sargent Seat Rebuild Pix

I had my seat redone in December so I beat the Spring Rush that Sargent
Cycle usually gets. Cost including shipping and handling was $309,
including the "Early Bird" Discount. Total turn around was time was about 3
weeks from when I shipped it out to when I got it back. I can scan in my
original drawings that I had to send Sargent and upload if anyone is
interested.

Yes, Sargent redid the seat that's featured on the Web and that led me to
Sargent myself. I looked at the Corbin seat but my taste didn't care for the
way the rise was done.

My seat differs in the passenger area and the front next to the tank. I
went for a flatter passenger surface with a solo rider look, the front was
raised approximately 1/2", flattened and widened the rider area roughly 1
1/2" but did not exceed the pan edge, raised it 1/4" too, moved the rise
back and raised it approximately 3/4", plus the re-upholstery work with the
GripTex insert and A66 Red welt. Super Cell foam front and rear.

The front was raised in an effort to take some pressure off my wrists, in
effect, tilting me back in the seat slightly, so far so good. I also have
installed the Gen-Mar risers.

Bill at Sargent Cycle was a great help in pointing out things to consider,
raising the front for example. I also originally wanted to move the rise
back a bit further but as Bill pointed out, the hump in the seat pan for the
tool kit limits this or you end up with too little foam. I strongly suggest
talking to Bill before changing the seat shape and so will Sargent cycle.

If you are happy with the seat shape and just find the foam support
unacceptable, then go for just the Super Cell foam upgrade, the stuff is
pretty amazing and will cost you a little over half what I spent to do the
front and back. If you ride solo, just do the front. Someone mentioned a
concern about seat height since they were having trouble reaching the
ground. A suggestion would be to have the Super Cell foam upgrade and have
the height reduced accordingly, again talk to Bill.

Paul - I live just West of Schenectady, NY, about a 3 hour ride from Boston.
You going to Americade?

Hope this answers most of the questions posed, if not, ask away :-)

Now, if we can get some better riding weather here, I'll get to try my seat
on some longer distances and report back. I've had enough of winter!!! (and
yes, snow flurries are in our forecast)
