Gerrit, my friend, you have absolutely hit the nail squarely on the head.
Not that doing performance mods is a bad thing, Hey it's fun to spend money
on our babies. But not all of us have unlimited resources to spend. I for
one have spent many hundreds on riding (safety) gear, lights, horns,
shields, radar detector, comm. unit, tank bag, etc... I want to buy a
carbon fiber can & (I guess) do the race tech forks, but I still want a new
seat and a few other goodies so the forks and can will have to wait. I have
pushed my ST pretty far and with 30+ years experience and 250K+ miles,
consider myself to be fairly competent (I'm still alive). But I KNOW I have
not come close to the limits of this machine. Case in point, the Dragon,
last year, I rode it a few times, felt I was getting the hang of it , when
from behind, what came blasting past me???? A dude on a 80's model V-65
Sabre!!! Smoked me. Later I witnessed him do the same thing to a guy on a
brand new, CBR 929. That guy could ride!!! By all means, use your cash to
hone your skills. And always ride within your limits. You will enjoy life
a little longer that way (hey, but never tip-toe).
