Sorry keith not quite right about "Eire".

Irish Free State 1922 - 1937
Eire 1937-1949
Republic of Ireland 1949 - NOW

Gaelic speakers will talk of Eire  for  Ireland , Albain for Scotland and I 
think its Bhreatain Bheag for Wales.
