Re: [ST] sprint st or st1100

Brian,

I'm a former ST1100 owner, and have some observations that might interest you.

Sprint:
- -little more kneeroom (I'm tall)

My wife has a Sprint RS, not an ST, but I find her Sprint has a lot more leg room than the ST1100. I was always bumping my knees on the fairing of the ST1100, and planned to order the knee pads before I sold it.

- -can find good used ones for ~$5-6,000

That's a hell of a lot of motorcycle for that price.

- -comes with sidebags

The hard bags are the ST1100's best feature

- -roomier, lower passenger pegs

The ST1100 is one of the best two-up bikes on the market

- -crashbar "wings" built in to protect fairing if dropped

They work, too. Please don't ask for details

- -mirrors. I don't like the plastic sleeve over the st's mirror stalks

The mirrors also provide a small amount of crash protection. Plus they provide a terrific rearward view

Areas where I see ST1100 < Sprint ST
- -heavier

Like I said, the ST1100 is a hell of a lot of motorcycle. Frankly, compared to the Triumph, it's a porker. That is the number one reason I don't own one.

- -doesn't handle as well, maneuverability, etc

The ST1100 handles well for a 700lb bike. Unfortunately, it's a freaking 700lb bike.

- -isn't as "exotic"

Nor is it as pretty

You're right--either bike would be a terrific motorcycle. If you do mostly two-up riding, go with the Honda, but if you do 75 percent solo riding, I think the Triumph is a lot more fun.
