Well Otterboy will have to confirm his intentions, but he was sounding
pretty lazy there, so I assumed he just wanted to attach the hose and pump.

My usual method is overfill the tire slightly using the gas station's
gauge. Then I put my gauge on and press the button on the gauge that
releases the air until it comes down to the right pressure.

vs.

Find your little doohickey (and you're going to need two, one for each tire
since they run at different pressures, or add another step for setting the
right pressure). Thread the doohickey onto the tire valve. Pump the tire.
Unthread the doohickey.

I don't see how that makes the pit stop any quicker.
