Next best thing is an Accu-gauge. Brass dial, rubber encased, 12" flexible
tube with right-angle brass fitting, and air-bleed button. Drill is to
over-fill the tire, ride home, let the bike sit for 3 hours in the shade,
then press the fitting into the valve stem. Pressure is read on the dial, and
by intermittently pressing the button, air can be bled off until the desired
pressure is reached. Don't know who makes them-Rocket Motorcycles, San Diego
(619)276-2177, will mail you one for 30-something dollars plus shipping.
The in-line gauges found at some gas stations are quite convenient, but
notoriously innaccurate. However if you always go to the same place, and
remember how far off they are, in which direction, they can be useful. When
filling warm tires, overfill by 3 lbs, and check pressure when tires are
cool. Dave Collins, San Diego
