Barry, you probably thought of this, but did you check the main connector on
the ECU, under the seat?  How about the connectors in the tail of the bike
near the rear lights, where the alarm connects, and the connector under the
seat where the gameboy plugs in?  I don't recall if there's a connector
under the ignition switch, but that might be worth a look, perhaps see if
you can bypass the kill switch and sidestand switch too.  I'd have thought
the connectors under the seat would be most likely to be damp or loose after
a service though.
