Ventura

I have noticed some interest in the Ventura luggage system and would like
to give a users impressions for those interested. I have used this system
on two bikes over the years including the 99 ST I have now.

Installation: Not bad, probably 30-45 or so minutes the first time. Unlike
some models, the Sprint does require the removal of the side panels to
install the mounting brackets. If you are careful, you can actually lift
the entire section of panels and tail section in one piece and prop it up
with a prop of your choice while being sure not to allow the front end of
the side panels to mar the tank.

Looks: With the rack and pack on ( 45 Liters, and you can fit two together
for 90), I think the system looks just fine. If you leave the support
brackets on without the luggage they are definately noticeable and do not
exactly add to the looks of your bike. Ventura does make a small sport rack
that is great for around town or commuting as well as a small pack to go
with it. The small rack and bag are really handy and can be used instead
of a small tank bag.

Function: It works. Because the pack does set up high, you can feel it
during strenuous cornering but it is not very much of a worry. Just be
sure to pack so loads cannot shift. The full pack can be removed in seconds
and has a carry strap. One of the best features is that absolutely nothing
ever touches a painted surface. In solo riding you have the pack sitting
above the passenger seat, with two you simply turn it around to face the
back of the bike.

Negative points: If you do not like the looks of the brackets the
installation will always be 20-30 minutes each time. That is the worst
thing about this system. Otherwise, it is a high quality product that
functions as advertised.

If anyone out there has had this system and now has the Triumph soft
luggage, I would love to see a comparison. (ok, so I took a day off, the
weather sucks, and I am bored...)
