weird thing happened to me on my way to work... (longish)

So, I was commuting work last Thursday riding my trusty screamin Yellow RS
over the "Bay Bridge" when I decided to down shift. The clutch lever became
slack and I knew that the clutch cable must have broken.

The traffic wasn't too thick, yet I didn't want to stop at a CalTrans call
box on the bridge as I always dreaded hearing on morning traffic repoerts,
"There seems to be a motorcycle stalled on the number 5 lane of the Bay
bridge. Traffic is delayed." So I kept my speed up and exited at on the
ramp I usually do in downtown San Francisco. The bike shuts-off at the stop
sign and I am able to walk it across the street to a doughnut shop and look
at the the cable. The doo-hickey that holds the clutch cable in place is
completely gone!

I am an essentially lucky person. But Thursday is a day when my usual
Triumph shop opens at noon. The closest shop in SF is closed for two weeks
(Munroe) and the shop I bught it from is 40 miles South! So I figure to
take ot a shop that can look at it and fix it. Lucky for me KC Engineering
was two long blocks away. They fashioned a doo-hickey thing to hold the
cable in so I can shift gears... But the spring thing (beneath the
doo-.hic...) is broken. KC Engineering fashioned a nice piece of metal to
hold the cord in place, but I need to go to aTriumph shop to do the rest.

The bike shifts fine and I am told by a Triumph shop person that the
work-around looks good; even looks stronger that the original. I can do the
warentty thing with getting a new spring and they have to go inside the
gearbox(?) to set something.

It's just the freakiest thing that ever fell off my bike. That's all.

Thanks, Tai
