     At the cold end of the Atlantic the process is called spark erosion.
     
     A local machine shop used it to salvage an old Brembo caliper off of one of 
     my Guzzis. The bleed nipple had jammed in the alloy body and a clumsily 
     applied extractor bit made things worse (I threw them out after that)
     
     The shop were able to burn out the bleed nipple (and the snapped extractor) 
     and they actually managed to follow the original tread precisely so no 
     retapping was necessary. 
     
     They charged IR£20 for the miracle they performed.
     
     Howlin'
They use a process that involves arc welding turned bad on purpose to drillh
 oles. Basically they can drill a hole in anything that is conductive.
