A long time ago I figured out that a magic number for converting l/100km
to IMPERIAL mpg. The number is 284, and you divide whatever figure you
have into to get the other since they are inverse measurements i.e.. 10
l/100km = 28.4 mpg, 5 l/100km = 57 mpg, etc.. Sine the US gallon is 4/5
of an imperial (cups are 8 oz, not 10, pints 16 instead of 20 etc.) I
would approximate the US magic number at about 227 (230 would be close
enough). So, a US 46 mpg would be about 5 l/100km. I think my math is
right, both for the imperial and the US modification, but someone please
correct me if I'm wrong.
