[ST] heli-bars, electrical harnesses

as i mentioned the other day, i'm finding that even with gen-mar
risers and ST bars on my RS, the seating position is a bit too much of
a reach for my comfort. it's doable, but not as pleasant as i think
it should be. (it could be argued that i bought the wrong bike.
believe me, i fully realize that. but everything _else_ about the RS
is _just_ what i wanted... :-/ ) (i should add that for just pure
riding, the position is mostly fine. but a lot of my use is
commuting, and i find that being leaned over at traffic lights, and
having a more restricted view over my shoulder at merges, are both
problematic.)

so i'm thinking of trying a set of heli-bars, partly because they'd be
higher, and partly because i could move them up and down depending on
what i was doing -- i.e., commuting vs. riding to colorado :-).

first off: anyone have a set of heli-bars they want to sell? :-)

second, i note that they don't list the RS as one of their
"applications" -- just the ST. when i spoke to heli on the phone last
november (i think), they said they hadn't had a chance to try a set on
an RS, so couldn't guarantee it would work. i think someone on this
list has done it, and i can't see any reason why they _wouldn't_ work,
so i'm willing to give it a shot...

...except for one thing: with the gen-mar and ST bar combo, the
electrical cabling from the bars to the dash, on both sides, is pretty
much at the limit. it might be that the bars could go up a bit more,
but they probably couldn't go back any further. at least, not bloody
much.

so i'm looking for ideas -- does anyone think there's a snowball's
chance in hell of getting mating connectors for the harness ends from
triumph, with which to make short extension cables? i think the
alternative is to cut the harness and solder in an extra several
inches of wire. (ugh.) a third possibility _might_ be to remount
whatever the far end of the harness attaches to (the speedo housing?)
with spacers so that it's closer to the bars. i should look at that.

i'm interested in hearing anyone else's brainstorming...
