Re: [ST] Daytona

Interesting comparison between the 916 and the new Daytona. No one complained about the looks of the 916 not looking like the 851-888 because there was near universal agreement that the 916 was beautiful, while many Ducatisti feel the 851-888 was, well, let's just say less than pretty. (Personally I like the 851-888, but I seem to be in the minority.) Anyway, people loved the way the 916 looked and it was a huge success, selling much better than the 851-888s ever sold.

Similarly, there was near universal agreement that the original 595 Daytona was an attractive design. The new design, on the other hand, seems to be provoking many strong negative responses. Whether you like it or not, you should probably be worried about the effect all this negativity will have on sales. Triumph should definitely be worried. Strong negative reactions, whether you personally think they are justified or not, are not what a company wants when it introduces a new bike. Can anyone say "Ogle Design Studios?"

I really don't understand some people, Triumph have released what to me
(and others) is a great looking new bike and immediately the critics come
out of the woodwork. The TT 600 was slated because it looked dull and
boring so Triumph went to town on the Daytona and it gets slated for being
Japanese looking. It is a modern bike that follows the styling cues of
other modern bikes. I even saw it referred to as "a styling
abomination", I have never heard so much crap in all my life. I doesn't
seem to matter what Triumph do they can't get it right in the eyes of some.
When Ducati released the 916 nobody said it doesn't look like the old 888
so it isn't following the "family look". I think it is called evolution.
