LOL, Being a rather olde fart I'm of the same opinion.  Many remember that 
before mid 80's most bikes didn't have *any* fuel gauge.  Just open the cap 
and look down or use the odometer reset.  Of course in those days we had 
reserve taps, a valuable feature I deeply lament losing.
