RE: multiple personality disorder

If you're schizoid Kathy, then that makes two of us.

I test rode a Sprint last month and liked it so much I bought one yesterday
('01 ST, BRG), trading in my trusty '85 Interceptor. By the end of my hour
long ride home, my back and neck were killing me as they never did on longer
rides on the Honda. This took me by surprise as everything I read said that
the Sprints were kind to taller riders (I'm 6', 170lbs) and it seemed
perfect on the test ride.

Like you I took advantage of the non-rainy weather we had today in Seattle
to take it back out to try and get a better understanding of what was
causing the discomfort and what I might do to fix it. It seems that when I
try to sit on the bike the same way I did on the VF500 is when I get the
most discomfort. If I use my legs to take some weight off my arms and
adjust the way I arch my back, I can alleviate most of it. It's almost like
my back has a "memory" of what it's supposed to do on a bike, and I have to
re-train it and myself how to sit properly on the Sprint. Has anyone else
experienced anything like this?

If I can't eliminate the posture discomfort this way I may try installing
GenMar risers to see if it helps. Has anyone ever used them, and if so did
they help?

I suspect that between adjusting the pegs (I presume they adjust), bars, and
how I sit I can figure out how to enjoy longer rides. Like you I'm not
going to concede defeat - the bike is just too fabulous to give up on.

First she says she wants to possibly sell it and now.... I went
out and rode my RS today in the fantastic (but unseasonable) weather
that hit Seattle today and DAMN, is that bike fun to ride!!!!
(said with totally stupid grin) Guess I forgot how much fun the
thing is while it sat in the garage while the rain poured.

So, heck, I gotta give it more of a chance before getting rid of it,
that's for sure. Actually, I was pretty comfortable on it today
and it was probably due to my new Kilimanjaro jacket I was wearing.
For the first time in ages I didn't have a jacket pushing up on the
back of my helmet like my Aerostitch does. Amazing what a different
piece of clothing will do for you.

I also got a little scare with all these fuel sender emails flying.
Filled up the tank with gas, drove off, and proceeded to continue
to see the gas light still lit. Stayed lit for almost a minute but
eventually went off. Whew.

Still Schizoid in Seattle --
