My friend gave me a good tip regarding disc locks:
In order to remember that the lock is in place I use a small magnet that I
place on the ignition keyhole every time I leave my bike. A fairly simple
method to apply that makes it hard to disregard this minor detail.

My vote is for wherever you're most likely to see it when you are
leaving. I dumped my EX500 a while ago by forgetting to take the disc
lock off, after a year of using it successfully, and after that I gave
the damned thing to a friend and got a cable lock.
