Dear Greg,
It depends on various factors, I consulted the Arai Web-site before buying a
(latest) Maverick ECE22-04 (in plain grey) from my local dealer. They (Arai)
wrote in there that these helmets can be painted without any performance
degradation because of the specific blend of resin used during
manufacturing. I know some other companies warn users against painting their
helmets, claiming that the thinners might weaken the shell. It thus seems to
be make and model dependant as I can't recall any mention of painting the
other models in the arai line-up.

Ps. My plain grey (or bright silver as they call it) Maverick is look cool
with a properly made Triumph sticker (fitted by a professional) just
underneath the top rear ventilation thingy.
