Re: 12k service

Erik

My experience with dohc setups is limited to a Z650 and a GS550 way back
when, but: I used to do all my own maintenance on those bikes (you could
easily, in those days!), at the specified intervals, and I used to wonder
why I bothered with the valves. Every time I'd go through the performance of
taking the cam cover off, cleaning up, fitting new gasket and seals etc.,
and only about one time in ten would anything have changed: even then it was
usually only just measurable. God, I even used to keep notes on the
clearances! I imagine the difference between dohc setups, where the cams act
directly on buckets over the valves (IS that the Triumph scheme?), and other
setups, is that most of the wear and tear is kept away from the valves, in
the drive: with pushrods, for example, the cams are miles away from the
valves.
