Are you referring to the John Player Special F1 cars of the 80's? They were
black & looked great. Very ususual to see black F1 cars. I can't think of
another example. They had Renault turbo power I believe. How, by the way,
did F1 engineers get 1600 bhp out of 1.8 litres?

Yeah, a John Players Special Sprint ST would look super bad.

I was at the Glen for the 78 & 79 formula 1 races.  If memory serves me the
JPS cars were Lotus powered by the ford cosworth dfv engines.  Andretti
drove #5 and Ronnie Peterson #6.  After Andretti won the drivers title he
picked up #1 but I still think that he stayed with lotus/ford.
