RE: Stolen Bike......

Remember that Insurance companies make profit by keeping pay-outs low.
Therefore, they'll always try to low-ball your estimate. You have to be
somewhat aggressive in informing them that they'll replace the damaged
components, not just repaint. Stand your ground. The bike was perfect
before being stolen, and it WILL be returned to that condition. Its current
condition was not your fualt. You didn't wreck the bike.

If there are any broken tabs on the the fairing, that will definately help.

Also, you could get your own estimate from your dealer to replace all the
parts. Then show them the difference between the labor to repaint vs. the
cost of new and no painting labor.

(I just recently had a 4 month old car smashed by a lady running a red
light, so I've been down this path with my insurance)

Subject: Stolen Bike......

Hi all,

Just thought I would give you an update on my bike which was stolen last
Friday. They recovered it yesterday. Went and had a look at it last
night. They had ripped the ignition barrel totally out. Inserted a screw
in the filler cap so they could open it. Mangled the seat lock. Scratches
all down left and right side of fairing. Looks like it was dropped on both
sides either stationary or very low speed. Broken clutch lever, bent brake
lever, scratched mirrors and various other bits. Estimate about two weeks
to repair.

I am told they will repsray the fairing. Does anyone know if I can expect
the paint job to be as good a quality as the factory?? Also does the ST
have a clear coat over the paint and decals? And is there any other
things I should check closely to ensure no damage?

Thanks

Rick
