I am 52 years old and just put in 1,464 miles over 5 days. Day #1 was a 500
mile day and I was sore in the knees and butt, otherwise ok. The last day was
a 379 mile day most of it in 106 degree temps through the San Juaquin Valley
in California. Not fun!

Your not wimps, just need more time in the saddle. It's a good soreness at
the end of the day.
