I never said the forks twisted of flexed! Perhaps the phrase "tied in knots" has
a different significance stateside?
The problem that I had with the stock ST forks was that they were very
underdamped and, in extreme conditions, the front hadn't recovered from one
corner while I was trying to set up for the next.
This was mostly noticable on the track but sometimes on a spirited Sunday
morning blast also.

The ST has a bellypan wrapped around the exhaust headers which reduces the
ground clearance. Irish back roads tend to be very twisty, bumpy and empty.
Hence they're poor roads driven very quickly. My bellypan has grounded three
times, every time I was two up(1) on a country road riding hard(2). Now these
are extreme conditions BUT I've been in the same circumstances on my Guzzi sport
and a VFR without any problems.

Possibly. I'm trying to learn all the time.
However I use the same technique every time I ride and the VFRs suspension is
able for my riding style and Irish roads. The ST isn't quite up to it. Normally
this means I just ride a little slower.

(1) Yes, I had wound up the preload.
(2) Fiona is famed for her nerves on the back of the bike. On one occasion I was
racing a Blackbird across the Wicklow gap (which some of you are familiar with)
We were riding hard running 130-140MPH on the straights and Fiona just sat there
totally relaxed. When we finally stopped she was asleep on the back seat! No,
the Blackbird didn't get past me.
