RE: [ST] Re: 1'st ride New RS

Nick,

When I took my RS in recently for a 17 tooth front sproket, the shop
adjusted the clutch play a little. The adjustment, along with the 3000
miles on the bike, has just recently enabled the 1st->2nd->neutral maneuver
to work consistently. It's still pretty tough to find neutral directly from
first, but just a few hundred miles ago the only hope I had to find neutral
at all was from a roll, or with the engine off.

My observations on the 17 tooth sproket (Two Bros CF and K&N going in this
weekend):

I'm shifting a lot more, which is basically what I was looking for. I do a
lot of riding in the city, and with the stock gearing sometimes I wouldn't
see 2nd on my entire commute to and from work. No more 1st gear corners
with the 17.

One thing I did enjoy about the taller gearing was taking advantage of the
bike's torque spread. Off the line, I wouldn't be due for a gear change for
a considerable distance, so pulling out in front of the pack of cagers at
the traffic light was a simple matter of twisting the throttle and watching
them shrink in the mirrors.

I have run into some spontaneous, grin-inspiring wheelies; however, for the
most part the front wheel feels quite light but still stays put under
acceleration. We'll see after the handful of HP from the new can, tune, and
filter coming up.
