[ST] accessory plug

"Just curious - do you have the so-called "hardened" converter or the
standard Garmin thing? I have the basic one, so I'm expecting the worst
if
a hardened unit is required. Perhaps it is just another case of
judicious
use of silicone gasket material to fill the plug."

Alex, Yes I believe the hardened unit is just gooped up with silicone to
keep the insides from vibrating loose. I've used a "non-hardened" GPSIII
for several years, including service on my BMW F650 off road, with no
problems.
BTW, Garmin sells a bicycle handlebar mount that comes with a small
double spring unit that goes in between the two pair of batteries which
has worked for me (once again, including a lot of off road riding)
without having to hard wire the unit.
If you want to get your GPS hardened. CycoActive performs the sevice on
existing units.
