Re: [ST] Patti's bad luck?

You are correct that finding out why a bike won't start should be
fairly simple. The problem is that, as far as I know, they have never
been able to get it to die in the shop. And when it dies, it often
will start back up again very soon thereafter, so there's a very small
window of opportunity in which to find the problem-- how much diagnosis
can you do in 10-60 seconds?

A part of me feels like if I had a good wiring diagram and a voltmeter,
I should be able to find the problem myself. However, the fact that
the failure is quite intermittent and doesn't last very long makes it
much more difficult. And electrical demons are often nasty elusive
beasts.

I'm an engineer with over 15 years of experience in everything from
system administration to microprocessor internals, so although I'm not
highly engine-savvy, I have a good general understanding of technology
and of troubleshooting, and I have a very good sense for when I'm being
bullshitted. I've spent a lot of time talking to the guys at CalBMW,
and I have no reason whatoever to believe that they are being
incompetent. (Among other things, they have been working very closely
with the tech specialists at TofA.)

I'm beginning to think that the ghost of Lucas, Prince of Darkness
inhabits my bike.
