I had a similar problem with mine. The dealer says it
was the idle control sensor. It seemed to do what you
are describing a bit more when the engine was hot than
when cold. I guess it was also contributing to the
difficulty into shifting the bike from 1st to 2nd when
first starting out first thing in the day (I mean very
tough and my bike has 9000 miles now!) - dealer says
bike wasn't idling enough to allow shifting. After
replacing the part I still occasionally felt it
happening. I too was surprised no one else noticed
this.

I then thought perhaps it was the way I was riding the
bike compared to others. So I read somewhere (Not
sure if it was this mailing list or another), where
perhaps I was under shifting the bike in the lower
gears. Now I shift from 1-2-3rd at about 5000 rpm and
don't see it happening.

Keep me posted on your results.
