[ST] 17 teeth, and what do you get, ...

Hey folks,
I dropped to a 17 from the stock 18 countershaft sprocket when I
replaced the chain.
The snap was definitely noticable. However, I recently had the
opportunity to let
Flash "breathe" in a closed course situation. Rolled on the throttle in
sixth until
it reached 9500 rpm. Speed 134.1. So ...., I had expectations in the
140 range.
And this is using the Sigma Sport bicycle computer, I have NO idea what
the Triumph
speedo said. According to the trusty stgear.xls spreadsheet, I should
have been
near 148. However, if I add 10% (how much off the Triumph speedo is)
134+13, I'm at
147. So ... does this mean the speeds are mapped to the "generous
Triumph" speedo,
and our beloved missiles only do about 145 with stock gearing? Is this
why they
raised the '00s countershaft sprocket to 19?

Will I go back to 18. Not anytime soon. This is way too much fun. And
during
commutes, my fuel lamp still comes on around 190. God I love this bike!!
