[ST] CSS 2/5: Level 1 Training

Level 1 focuses on basic riding skills to make sure you're doin' it right. It
picks up where the MSF class's "Look, Lean, and Roll" leaves off. Essentials
like proper countersteering, turn points, quick turning, proper throttle
control, and such are the focus. Those of you who've read Code's "Twist of the
Wrist II" will know these already:
The throttle should be cracked on as early as possible
The throttle should be rolled on smoothly throughout the turn
Turning should be completed as quickly as possible
Turning should be done only once per turn
Other things like staying loose through the turn to let the bike's suspension
work are also part of the drills. Fundamentals that all of us knew, but none of
us had mastered them all. By the end of Level 1 my lap times improved quite a
lot: from a dismal 2:40 to 2:09. They were more consistent, too, but still
varied by a few seconds lap-to-lap.
