When California implemented the latest "clean fuel", the one with MTBE
which is now polluting our water, the official word was that it would
affect gas mileage by about 5%. At the time I was riding a Katana and saw
my range go from about 180 miles per tank to less than 130. My other
vehicles also saw a drop although they didn't seem to be affected as much
as the Katana. My Del Sol used to get about 40mpg on the freeway, now it
gets about 33.

Some of the drop might be attributed to the vehicles getting older, but in
the case of the Katana, I noticed it right when the fuel formula was
changed.
