I had the same with mine, they fixed it under warranty. I've got a 2001 bike
now and they changed the rear mount, it's much stronger now.

I would try to get it done under warranty. I had problems with the side
stand of
my first Sprint (96) and had it covered under warranty a half Year after the
warranty expired. It was a known problem.
