[ST] Engine Malfunction ???

I thought I would share an experience my wife and I had on our bikes this
afternoon. My wife and I both have Sprint STs and enjoy any opportunity we
get when we can ride together. We have 10 year old twin daughters who had
arranged to play with friends today which allowed for some time to jump on
the bikes. We headed out of Edmonton, Alberta to explore some of the
surrounding roads in the area. We travelled on some of the secondary roads
for about an hour and headed back to town to celebrate mothers day at our
place with our parents. On the way back we approached a stop sign with my
wife leading. As I slowed down to stop, my bike stopped running and I
wheeled over to the side of the road. As I watched my wife pull away I was
at the very least puzzled to what my problem could be. I did the obvious
checks (at least for me) which were fuel and did I accidently hit the kill
switch. When I turned the key to start it up I noticed the Engine Management
System Malfunction Indicator Light would not go out as it should when you
are starting the bike. As soon as my wife checked her mirrors she realized
something had gone wrong and did turn around to see what was keeping me.We
arranged to leave the bike in a stall of a nearby condominium and I headed
home on my wife's bike. We have a great group of Triumph riders in the
Edmonton area and with the help of some fellow Triumph owners we loaded the
bike a few hours later to transport it to the shop tomorrow morning. I have
had the typical ST problems (radiator & fuel sender replacement) but I don't
recall seeing this type of problem occuring regularly with other ST riders.
Our RAT pack is off to southeastern B.C. on Friday and I hope my problem
won't prevent me from joining everyone. On a positive note I am sure glad
this did not happen in the middle of the Rogers Pass on the Trans Canada
highway. I will be on the phone in the morning to my dealer who is one of
the better Triumph dealerships in Canada. If my problem is serious one maybe
I can convince the dealer to loan me a RS for the weekend :-). I will post a
report on the bike when we find out from the service department at Echo
Cycle.
