Correct -- it's a known problem with no confirmed cause or fix. It would
appear that the bike's computer (ECU) has simply suffered a 'brain fart',
and the problem was cleared by turning the ignition switch off and then back
on. It is quite a rare occurence and the other thing that seems to be
fairly consistent among those that have reported this phenomenon, is that it
only seems to happen on bikes that have fairly low mileage. I seem to
recall a rumour that it might be being caused by a sticky Idle Air Control
Valve (that gets less sticky as time goes by), but I don't know if that was
ever confirmed. I've also wondered if it might have been cured by upgrading
the ECU 'tune', but I tend to think not. It been so long since I've had the
problem I can't remember if I have experienced it since the first time the
tune was updated, and that was within the first few months of ownership of
my then-new '99 Sprint.
