[ST] Re: Octane debate (was this scheduled for this month?)



I'll chime in as well. Any change in gas mileage from different octane
fuels isn't due to the octane rating itself.

But it is entirely possible that different brands or formulations of gas
may have an effect on gas mileage. Just ask anyone who has lived in
California long enough to know what it was like before and after oxygenated
gasolines hit the market. So if you compared regular that was gasohol and
the premium wasn't then I could see there would be difference. Otherwise I
agree, the difference is in your head and you're wasting money.

I use mid grade in my Sprint but in a pinch I have gotten by on regular. If
anything I got better gas mileage using regular because I wasn't jumping on
the throttle as much, since I was afraid of making the engine knock.
