Wow, I hope this isn't so!!
My dealer in Eugene OR(that's Oregon) suggested cleaning with WD40 and
lubing with Motul back when I was on my Honda VFR a few years ago.
Then when I moved to the '00 Sprint ST (red, of course) I used the same
procedure, and I regularly get 20-25K on a chain and sprockets.
I have to admit that I'm fairly anal about cleaning the chain and
sprockets, in fact the dealer said that I probably get the best mileage
out of a chain that he's seen in awhile.
I don't think I'll be able to change my WD40 habit, it's addictive.
