[ST] Cable Breakage

>>
Are you keeping this list for any particular reason?
<<

I haven't had my cable break and I hope it doesn't. There have been several
comments on this list that someone should be keeping track of cable breaks.
I'm actually thinking that we should be keeping track of any problems, but
thought I would start small with just the cable.

For example, my RS has developed a small antifreeze leak and I know that
other's have had leaks.

OK, now the reason:
The number 1 problem (imHo) with our Sprints, and actually Triumph, is the
dealer. And I haven't figured out if it is the dealer or Triumph America
that is the problem.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones to have one of the not so great
dealers, and you have a problem with your bike. You take your problem to the
dealer and he's not so willing to step up to the plate to help you. Wouldn't
it be nice to be able to say "Hey, I belong to a Sprint EMail List and there
are X number of bikes with the same problem. Please call Triumph for me and
take care of this!"

I'm hoping that with a small effort we can save someone somewhere some
money.

I have had 3 Hinckley Triumph's now and I love them. I've had to purchase
them from 3 different dealers. 2 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and 1 in
Fargo, North Dakota.
As of this month, I now have NO dealer at all in Sioux Falls. My closest
dealer is about a 5 hour drive(Fargo). The only dealer in South Dakota is
almost a 7 hour drive(Black Hills).
My personal experience and the impression I get from this list is that there
is a relationship problem between Triumph America and the American Dealers.

Information is power. The more information we have walking in the door to
explain our problem, the better informed our dealers will be. The more
information our dealers have, the stronger OUR case will be. I don't know if
this will help any relationship problems between the dealers and Triumph
America, but the dealer won't be able to just simply dimiss your problem and
charge you for something that Triumph should be paying for.

Rant mode off for now.

I don't believe that it would be a good idea to have the Problem Database
published on the web, at least not the Sprint site. I believe, and Eric can
correct me if I'm wrong, that Eric's site was created as a kind of
celebration of a wonderful motorcycle.
If a potential Sprint owner goes to the site and sees a database listing all
of the problems that anyone has ever had, they might decide not to buy a
Sprint and therefore miss out on a really nice ride.

I'm willing to keep a database of any problems that we've had to help out a
fellow owner if his/her dealer isn't responsive.
If someone asks me for information on how many people have had clutch cable
problems or other problems, I can tell them.
I don't feel right, giving out names though.

So, to expand this database, if you would like to help me keep a database of
any problem(not just clutch) you've had with your bike, I'd be willing to
keep track of it.

I would like to add a few columns to the database:

Name:

Problem:

Sprint ST or RS:

Year of bike:

Number of miles on bike when problem occured:

Dealer Name and Location:

Who paid for the resolution to the problem
(You or Triumph):

I'll still post this 3 more times and then I'll probably post the question
once a quarter to try and keep it up to date.

If you would like to receive the information I'm gathering, just email me
and I'll give you everything I have(except names).
address: sportybird@xxxxxxxxxxx
