[ST] Long-term business idea

All the riders down recently and my own need for some new body panels
due to an inattentive moment at the Eastern Rallye got me thinking.
This is an unusual thing for me to do (think), so the idea may be
totally wacky.

Someone needs to open a Triumph salvage mail order business. OK, there
may not be much demand for used parts today, but the demand is growing.
Buy up those crashed write-offs that still have usable parts on them.
Put up a web site a rough idea of your inventory.

Eventually you'll have a decent stock of used bits that have long gone
out of production. And eventually there will be a lot of older Triumphs
(including many of the bikes we are riding now) that will need them.
Until then there will always be people who want a good used wheel to
replaced the dinged one, or an intact left fairing and nacelle to
replace the ones they scraped at the Rallye. ;-)

No you won't get rich doing this. But it might be a nice supplemental
retirement income for 10 or 20 years from now.

If I had a piece of property with a decent building on it and a green
card that would let me start a business, I just might try it myself.
Those who know me well know I'm a packrat who doesn't like to throw
anything away "just in case someone might need this someday" which seems
the perfect attitude to run something like this.

I wonder how you go about getting salvage title to all those wrecked
bikes? How do the insurance companies go about getting rid of wrecked
bikes? Where do they go? Do they just truck them down to the local
"Joe's Salvage Yard"? Or do they send them more specifically to "Bob's
Motorcycle Salvage -- We Carry All Makes"? And how would you arrange to
have just the Triumphs directed to you?

This idea is free for the taking. But if you come across any blue
pieces you could toss my way ... ;-)
