Re: [ST] Are Triumph speedos really that bad?

I found that my TBS and Trophy were both very accurate. The Sprint on the
other hand is definately 10% off.

I wonder what year of Tigger they were testing.

There has been a good deal of discussion at various times on the list about
Triumph speedo accuracy or should I say inaccuracy. In this months Bike
(UK)
magazine there is an article about Gatsos (speeding cameras) and just how
much
speed you can get away with and whether you can trust your speedo or not.
The
mag did a spot check of all the bikes they were testing in this months
edition
by driving each of them at an indicated 80mph. The following is a list of
the
"real" speeds:

Honda CBR600 = 74.2mph
Aprillia Capanord = 76.1mph
Suzuki GSXR600 = 74.2mph
BMW R1150GS =72.1mph
Yamaha R6 = 74.9mph
Triumph Tiger = 79.6mph
Kawasaki ZX6R = 75.6mph
Honda Varadero = 76.2mph

Surprising eh?! The Triumph is absolutely spot on. Now given that a lot of
the
more mundane parts on Trumpets are common to many of the models I would have
thought it reasonable to expect that ST/RS speedos should be just as
accurate.
Or does the Tiger use a totally different speedo setup to other Trumpets?

Just wondering like...
