Great idea, perhaps one step more might be to fill the tubes with expanding
foam, such as 'Good Stuff'.  This will keep the heat from warming the air,
then into the mounts some (although it will be transmitted via metal to metal
conduction too). Also, known from owning a very old Ford truck, this
expanding foam eats up vibration.  Try it on your firewall some time in your
auto.
