[ST] More Cable Questions

I think this is what happened to mine. There's not enough cable left to
reach the swaged end part, so it broke below that. I was conscious of a
slight rub at times; I used cable lube and it went away...obviously didn't
fix the problem.  Lube can't overcome mis-matched parts.

You can carry a spare, but you can't choose where you'll be when the cable
breaks. It's a lottery whether you'll be in a "safe" place, or merging in
heavy traffic, as I was. Try idling along in 1st gear sometime, then gas it
right before a stop sign, and try & stop hard without using the clutch. When
the engine finally jerks to a stop, you've got a locked back wheel. It's an
incredibly out-of-control feeling. Add some gravel... not good. This combo
was worse than any tire failure I've ever had.
